I have discovered, or at least become much more aware, of the shell-edged plates made by Wedgwood.

The delicate moulding on the edge of plate resembles a shell, for which the plates are named.

I have a number of these hand-painted fruit plates; they complement the navy shell-edged salad plates (vintage, also Wedgwood and an eBay find) and the delicate cream-on-cream raised-paste dinner plates  The berry-filled turquoise Venetian glass compotes add another layer of colour. They’re antique and from Elise Abrams.

I’m now on the lookout and am scouting eBay and Replacements.com.  I was lucky enough to pick up a full set 12 dinner and salad plates of the cream-on-cream with raised-paste flowers on the shoulder from eBay. So far I’ve found only six of the dessert plates with the navy edging, but am continuing to look. They turn up from time to time on eBay.
