November is a bit of an odd month for home decor. In Canada, Thanksgiving is far behind us, pumpkins are being removed from door stoops, and yet, it seems a bit unseemly to be putting out Christmas decorations (at least before Remembrance Day, says my son, Adam).

Pewter to the rescue. Its understated elegance is always welcome, and it’s so darned versatile. It goes with anything!

Here I’ve styled it with Emerson plates and soup bowls with clear Graham goblets and Berry and Thread flatware, all by Juliska.

The Jacquard linens in wheat from Williams Sonoma a few years back. The neutral, yet warm shades form a rich base for autumn settings. This particular pattern is discontinued, but they have some really pretty ones this year in silver and red as well as their neutrals.

It looks just as good with plain white linens, and I added some peachy-pink colour with June Pink depression glass water and iced tea glasses by Fostoria from Replacements.com.

The compotes and plates are a different pattern, that I picked up in a shop in Provincetown many years ago. I have only four of them, but they’re excellent for a small serving of berries and ice cream or a seafood ceviche as an appetizer.

Speaking of berries, the deep purple of these blackberries is enhanced by the rich tones of the pewter plate.

Pewter – such a versatile palette and so much fun to play with.
