I noticed a bird’s nest tucked into the climbing hydrangea on our coach house wall yesterday, as we returned from walking the dogs. Is this a new nest or one left over from last year, I wondered? As the leaves begin to bloom later on the hydrangea, any inhabitants will be hidden from the world, quietly (or noisily) chirping away. It will be fun to keep an eye out for a new family. Soon!
Field Notes, by Pier 1, is a new ironstone pattern this year, with exquisite etchings, a rippled surface and antiqued rims.The dinner plate, shown above, features brown and yellow birds watching the little blue eggs in their nest.
The salad plate has a blue bird and white flowers.
Yellow daffodils and tulips in simple creamware jugs set off the pattern and picked up the subtle pastels of the plates.
The glasses are a depression glass pattern from Replacements. The glasses are the iced tea and water goblets in Navarre Blue by Fostoria, This particular shade of blue is quite tricky to use. It’s almost luminous in colour and appears jarringly “off” with more greyish blue shades. It works really well here, though, with the mostly cream & white palette and touches of blue in the birds.
The linens are all from Pottery Barn. The runner is the Linen Hemstitch from several years ago. I’ve provided the link to their current offering, but warn readers that the new versions are a lot lighter and flimsier than the ones I’ve purchased in the past. The “nest” napkins are also from several years ago. The placemats are Honey Round Rattan from Pier 1, still available, and currently on sale. They’re a go-to staple for me. Sturdy, easily wiped down, and form an attractive neutral background for a wide variety of place settings.

The garden-themed pewter napkin rings are from many moons ago (20 years?? – surely not!), and I can’t remember where I got them.
The little bird and egg in nest salt and pepper shaker came from Pier 1 to complement the Field Notes set. I love the speckles on the egg and the twiggy legs of the holder.

This is a beautiful table! Love the new Pier 1 plates and the blue depression stemware. I like the napkins with the birds nest- don’t think I’ve seen them at Pier 1 just yet. Love the daffodils and the s & P shaker set. I agree- hurry up spring!

This is gorgeous. The first thing I noticed was the blue glass water goblets (I love vintage glass). I know what you mean about how certain colors can be jarring. I have a set of pink depression glass and the shade of pink can make it difficult to pair on tablescapes. You did a beautiful job here. It looks perfect!
Some of the vintage glass is really vivid, too, so it’s not just the shade. It’s the case with this blue set. I have some June Pink glasses and they’re a soft peachy shade that seem to go with everything. Very odd, isn’t it? Have a good weekend.
