One of the delights of fall is waking up to an unexpected jewel of a day with bright sunshine and warm temperatures, just when we’ve resigned ourselves to gloomy skies and plummeting thermometers.
We had already brought in the outdoor furniture for the season, but I was so energized by the gorgeous day, I decided to haul out our drop-leaf table from the family room and set a transition tablescape with a set of Winter Lodge woodland-themed appetizer plates from Certified International. I do love Mr Hare in his winter setting.
Winter Lodge is a fairly comprehensive offering with tons of pieces available, but these little plates with their faux-wood border really stole my heart.
A quick snip from one of our cedars, add in a few pine cones and branches from a tree out front and I was in business. Instant centrepiece.
I used a matelasse bedspread from ages ago, sourced at Bed Bath & Beyond for the base. A lively paisley striped scarf served as a colourful runner and a set of paisley napkins from HomeGoods filled out the colour scheme.
Wood handled flatware from World Market seemed the natural choice for a woodland themed table.
Acacia Wood chargers, topped with vintage Cream on Cream shell-edged Wedgwood dinner plates, and brown oak-leaf Majolica salad plates layered up to frame the appetizer plates. The colourful pheasant takes in his pine-cone surroundings.
Generous white pumpkin shaped mugs from Pier 1 this year await an infusion of latte for a foamy caffeinated start to the day.
A wily fox pauses to check behind him. What was that noise? Am I being followed?
A snow-covered set of pine cone salt and pepper shakers snuggles in next to the cedar.
Now, what is this wise owl doing out in the daytime? Waiting for breakfast?
Fingers crossed that we get a few more of these glorious fall days as we transition to hibernation-weather. Brrrrr.
I’m sharing this post with Between Naps on the Porch.
I can almost smell the pine scent on this table. Very creative on the bedspread. I have the same on my dining table here in CT. And, the scarf as a runner is ingenious. Love the plates but my favourite is the wise old owl. Now put everything away before the snow comes.
I think the rabbit is my favourite, though wise old owl is a close second. I’ll use them for tea and a scone next time you are over.
Cozy setting for fall, with or without nice weather! I’m crazy about paisley and enjoyed your mix of patterns. And the animal plates are soooo cute.
Isn’t paisley the best? It’s such a complex pattern, but so versatile. It really pulls disparate patterns together. Nice to meet a fellow paisley fan! Thanks for stopping by, Sandra.
Completely charming.
Thanks so much!
Dear Helen, Again, thanks for inspiration. For 50 years I have dragged a 1900 paisley all over the world. Its centre is marred by moth holes. In previous lives it was tacked on my uni digs wall, covered a headboard, draped a sofa, and was used as a bedspread, but now I can imagine using it for a table setting (with strategic cover-ups). Like you, I often employ unusual textiles in lieu of tablecloths…thanks, Liberty! My scarves are sometimes rumpled down the centre of the table, and I like using serviettes as place mats. Those lovely pumpkin mugs are on clearance, so today I ordered some…they are good for soup dinners around the fire, although we’ll have to wait another year before putting them into play. Lord knows when we’ll get the renovation done. Hope yours is winding down. To the beach!!
I do love Liberty prints! And lucky you to have a 1900 paisley; what are a few moth holes between friends? I think you’ll like the pumpkin mugs – they’re perfect for soup.
The reno is within spitting distance of compleetion. The marble top for the island in the closet comes this afternoon; the shower glass was installed on Wednesday. The prints are all off at the framers awaiting completion. The only snag is the ventilation, a football which has been kicked from one paticipant to another until my husband, losing patience with all the bickering, stepped in and settled things. We called in our own roofers to install the roof vents, rapidly followed by our own HVAC people to attach the vents. Enough, already!
Enjoy the beach, Beatrice!
I almost laughed when I realized I had chosen your link yet again from BNOTP’s Tablescape Thursday! Obviously I LOVE your style, color choices, and beautiful pieces! Thanks for inspiring me in so many ways, Helen! I’m so glad I found you and your site!
I loved that table, too. Some of them just resonate, and this was one of them. The little appetizer plates are so appealing, somehow. I almost ordered the mugs, too, but they looked like they’d have a thick rim, which I dislike. Stay warm!
