When the peonies bloom I am always torn between leaving them in the garden to admire, or cutting them for a glorious display for the table. This year the table won. I arranged them in my grandmother’s Cobalt urn, set the table with some cobalt Limoges plates and soup bowls hand-painted by Meirelle, added hand-painted cobalt Venetian goblets featuring pink riggerie and enjoyed a lovely “ballgown” lunch.
