On the same day I snagged the Aynsley St. Clair set at The Elegant Garage Sale, a thrift store on Bayview in Toronto, I picked up an almost complete set of Baronesse White by Tirschenreuth. It’s white porcelain, so has its characteristic slightly grey undertone rather than the more creamy, warm white of bone china. The delicate shape and detailed edging belie the extremely durable nature of porcelain, and it makes a wonderful every day service. I’ve always loved the pattern and was very pleased to provide a home for the lonely set which evidently had been much enjoyed by its previous family. It’s also available from Replacements.com.

White china is the backbone of any tableware “wardrobe”. Food looks wonderful against a plain, stark background, and it’s the natural choice when using heavily patterned linens such as the Spring Blossom set by Pottery Barn. White serving pieces mix and match well with other sets, which is a bonus. The tureens shown here are Antique White by Mikasa.

The goblets are antique Venetian glass. I use them a lot during the holiday season, and they were pleased to get another outing.  The flatware is part of a vintage canteen set I purchased many years ago from Country Dining Room.
