Metier de Vieux or loosely translated, old professions or trades, is a wonderful subject for a series of plates, don’t you think?
First the ladies, whose occupations centre around food and drink – milk, cream, nuts, legumes and pears:

Then the gentlemen, with professions involving such items as glass, wooden spoons, water and clothing.

The pictures on the plates carried the day, so the table needed little embellishment. Black & White striped linens from Williams Sonoma provided a strong foundation, with a nod to the French ancestry of the plates. The placemats are simple whitewashed rattan from Pier 1. The cutlery is Berry and Thread from Juliska.
The goblets are antique Venetian “swirl” glasses, as I call them and are from Elise Abrams Antiques, as are the plates.
The flowers are from Verde Floral Design in Mashee Commons. They put together this lovely bouquet with anemones, pale pink parrot tulips, purple hydrangea and creamy yellow roses. It put the final touch on a very fun table.

My favourite is the glass guy – all those bubbles! But for personality fit, probably the nut cracker 🙂
