I found this series of Christmas Plates whilst digging around on Replacements.com one day. Since they upgraded their site, it’s easy to find previously unknown patterns.  (All too easy…)

The black background and child-like drawing of the tree reminded me of a Charlie Brown Christmas, so that immediately found favour, But it was the cheeky little penguin that really stole my heart. 

There are about six different patterns of these dessert plates available. They’re by Certified International and all start with “Midnight”, so have at it! I have still to acquire Midnight Angel. It’s amazing how, with an inexpensive set of dessert plates, you can get a whole new look!

Combining them with Hartley Greens Creamware (now discontinued, darn it) and simple black placemats from Pier One made the plates pop.  The detail on the creamware is very appealing.

I used the chestnut bowl for the centrepiece and filled the cherry baskets with Christmas Bells (a vase filler from Pottery Barn from a while ago).

The linens are from many years ago and are by Beauville. The goblets are Manhattan by Stuart and were part of my wedding crystal. The cutlery is my often used vintage bakelite-handled canteen set.

The table really came into its own night.

Creamware and candlelight. Magic.
