Skating Chefs, a riff on the Guy Buffet series, jumped out at me one day on eBay. This one’s for you, Lauren Kain, who rises in the very wee hours of Christmas morning to proof and bake the croissants she brings from Petite Thuet, where she works as sous-chef to Chef Marc Thuet. As a parent & grandparent, it’s utterly delightful to see how holiday rituals morph to include the contributions of the next generation. Rising to the wafting aroma of baking croissants is one such privilege, and is very much appreciated. Yum!

There are six plates in the set. They’re rimmed in a very deep green, reflecting the Christmas motif.
Of course, what could be more appropriate than styling them with pastries and croissants?
The green glasses are from Pottery Barn about 20 years ago. While a slightly lighter shade, the green bowls and cake stands from a gift store in Cape Cod, toned very well.
The linens are fairly recent acquisition from Williams Sonoma – within the last year.
I liked the way the black & white bistro-theme picked up the black & white check in the chef’s pants.
The rooster salt & pepper shakers are also from Williams Sonoma within the last year.
Moxie helped out with the table setting, mostly by staying off the table (for a change). She’s usually all over it like a bad rash.

I am a big fan of chefs on dishes. These are really cute. And all of the green is very nice.
Chefs are an amusing plate decoration, aren’t they? Such a natural fit for obvious reasons. The skating was a fun twist on the theme. I thought at first the trim was black, and was surprised at the green, so went with it! Have a good weekend.
Never hardly ever see Moxie. Wonder where devilish Dundee was hanging out? Beautiful table!
Moxie makes infrequent appearances, carefully timed to avoid Dundee. She has no patience with his little-brother bug, bug, bug. I sometimes forget that she’s a mature lady now, more than eight years old, so she’s not as playfully destructive as she used to be. I miss her exuberance, but not the wreckage in her wake. lol.
I think our dearly departed Maggie & Molly would have loved your cute kitty Moxie! Girl cats seem to get along, in my experience anyway.

Williams Sonoma has had a lot of fun and original themes in the past – eBay or Replacements are the places to track them down. I was astonished at how many sets there were!
As always, it’s a joy to see this happy setting. Adore your green cake stands! My daughter in law has been collecting green glass vintage small divided trays & candy dishes at Thrift shops. I scored one small pink glass cake stand. “Cake” is not really the word, more like 1 1/2 cupcake.
Oh – that little pink cake stand could do all kinds of things! Could be the base for a lovely little floral composition, perhaps in a teacup? A little florist’s clay to hold the cup in place? Or a piece of oasis? Think outside the cake stand. 🙂
