Old fashioned winter village scenes are a Christmas classic. So many patterns from which to choose!

What appealed to me particularly about this e-Bay find was the vivid and unusual shade of blue in the sky. It’s sometimes called “Victorian Blue”, and has a bit of a teal undertone. I set out on a quest to find some table decor that reflected it. Christmas baubles from good old Canadian Tire did the trick nicely.

I placed the baubles in some clear vases from Pier One and a clear Venetian glass compote.

The pattern #5053 Winter Village by American Atelier, features four different buildings depicted on gold rimmed plates. I styled them simply with white Sferra Sweet William linens, Oxford Gold white dinner plates and antique-gold coloured chargers, all acquired in previous seasons.

Staying with the idea that the plates and the blue baubles should carry the show, I used fairly plain clear and gold twist-stemmed Venetian goblets from Elise Abrams Antiques. The antique menu cards and gold-rimmed open salts are from Country Dining Room Antiques and Etsy respectively, years ago.

This menu card still has the description of a long-ago meal. I haven’t had the heart to erase it, and sometimes wonder about the family where it lived long ago.

I liked the table so much I left it up for several days in the dining room, peeking in now and again to enjoy it.

Happily, the dining room can be shut off, so the baubles remained unmolested by the cats, who are ecstatic that Christmas has once again returned with the splendid array of all their “toys”. There are frequent bonk, bonk, bonk, bonk, clink, clink, clink noises emanating from various parts of the house as the cats liberate plastic baubles from the tree and begin another round of Feline Hockey Night in Canada. Sigh.

Here are some photos with the candles lit.

Only a couple of weeks now! Are you ready for Christmas?

I’m sharing this post with Between Naps on the Porch.
