We are so fortunate to live near the Niagara region here in Ontario, with its gorgeous bounty spilling from the fruit stands all summer long. Cherries, peaches, plums, grapes, pears and apples appear in successive waves of colour and flavour, beckoning and begging to be taken home and enjoyed.
Pier 1 has captured the essence of the harvest’s bounty with these Verona salad plates, an addition to the pattern they launched last year. It proved exceedingly popular, as it’s already out of stock. (Oops – correction – it’s still in stock and here’s the link to the salad plates and to the dinnerware).

This year, they added four different salad plates featuring peaches, plums, pomegranates and pears.
I added the plates to the set I bought last year, and used in this table setting in our back yard in Ancaster.
The cream background of the Verona coordinates beautifully with Hartley Greens Creamware. So many of the pieces of the creamware are oriented to fruit; there are lots of stands and pierced baskets, perfect for holding strawberries, or plums in this case.
This time I styled the Verona with Martillo dinner plates from Pier 1 in a deep red colour and vintage Colonial Dame iced tea glasses by Fostoria in green. The plates are currently available in a few colours, and Pier 1 will no doubt be bringing back some shade of red for the Christmas season. I got my Colonial Dame glasses on e-Bay and they’re also available at Replacements.
The placemats are whitewashed rattan from Pier 1 (currently available in a gold colour). The Danieli cutlery is from World Market (still on sale!), and the napkins are from Williams Sonoma several years ago.
Some small, chubby birds dropped in to help out as salt & pepper shakers.

Super! I especially like the fig and pear ones!!! I have seen those very plates at Pier One and considered buying. My husband has, unfortunately, put me on lockdown where buying new stuff is concerned. Such a killjoy!!! I hope you enjoy your beautiful dishes for years to come!
Haha! Yes, this tableware accumulation is a delicately negotiated marital arrangement, isn’t it? How much is too much? Hard to say??? So glad you like the table. I wasn’t going to get the plates, as I already had Verona from last year, but I was so taken with the detail on the fruit and how vibrant the colours were, I succumbed…
No such thing as too much, really! I have 100+ sets of dishes, upwards of 300 linens, more stemware and chargers than you could shake a stick at…no such thing as too much! I think the sticky thing would be if we just bought it, stuck it away somewhere and never used it. I could see them getting bent out of shape about that. But I USE my stuff! ALL of it!!! Husbands…gotta love ’em! Have a great weekend!
