Primroses are one of the most hopeful signs of spring, even if they appear in the grocery store, rather than the garden, as these did.
I’ll take any sign of spring, anywhere I can get it.
Country Heritage by Villeroy & Boch provides a clean, white palette. This is my “everyday” dinnerware, a pattern I share with my daughter-in-law, Annie. When each of the girls set up their own establishment (with or without a mate), we shopped together for a set of plain white china and this was Annie’s choice. I liked it so much I added it to my collection a year later. Sadly, it’s now discontinued. The pieces are beautifully shaped, particularly the rice bowl, and the pattern offered a wide array of serving bowls and platters. We both love it.
The goblets are a combination of Graham Green and Isabella Green, both by Juliska. They too are discontinued, but sometimes available at Replacements. I bought the set several years ago from Juliska just as they were finishing with it and got it for a terrific discount.
The linens are from Pottery Barn a few years back. The cheerful bird pattern was available in tableware, bed linens and even tumblers, I recall.

The linens are so cheerful, and feature several different birds in yellows, oranges and blues.
Our pewter bird salt & pepper shaker joined the feathered friends. I think they’re sparrows? We picked up the set while staying at Blantyre, a country house hotel in the Berkshires. Before purchasing our house in the Cape, we used to go there most years for a weekend getaway.

It’s an interesting shade of green – a bit of a yellow undertone, but the glass is thin and transparent enough that the green can morph a bit in different settings. I originally saw the champagne flutes at a small boutique in Charleston and fell for the pattern. They had it set with Spode Indian Home Accents plates, and the combination was very striking. Several years passed before I managed to acquire some, and by then it was being discontinued. Juliska still makes the clear version. Thanks for stopping in!
I love your perfect pure white dinnerware!! The scalloped edges give ladylike elegance. Would really show off the food served and appropriate for any occasion or company. You have set a marvolous inviting table. Let’s eat!!!
Funny you should mention the white dinnerware. In the book I did a whole section on how versatile it is, and how it forms the backbone of so many tables. Just love it!
I’ve learned to use linens as a way to celebrate a season or make a day special. It only took 50 years. Haha
Your bird linens are a great example of the power of linens, especially when dinnerware can go with anything. With Pier 1 stores closed, I now get special place mats or other linens from local (very affectionately with much love) we call “junk shop” to add new life to dishes I already have.
Vintage linens can be a wonderful find! In doing the photos for Book #2 (currently “under construction”), I purchased some linens from eBay. Oh, those cheerful aquas, greens, blues and pinks of the 1950s! So much fun.
