I sometimes think that Cape Cod should be designated as the Daffodil Capital of the Universe. There is something about the sandy soil and cooler spring temperatures that encourages narcissus to flourish like nowhere else.
Early one morning I went on a snipping expedition in my garden, a little surprised at how many varieties assembled themselves into a bouquet. Clearly time to set a table!
I popped the flowers into an aqua seeded glass water jug and went searching for Katie Alice dinnerware by Pfaltzgraff. I had picked up the dinner and salad plates a couple of years ago when they were on a super-sale and tucked them away for future table adventures.
The dinner plate has adorable blue dots on the shoulder of the plate (and my camera lens has not-so-adorable spots on it, I now realize…grrr. Time to clean that sucker).
The seeded aqua glasses are almost ten years old – they were one of the first things we picked up for the house down here.
They’re sturdy and durable; such a perfect beachy glass.
“Gold Luster Rim” chargers from Pier 1 added a bit of glam. I’ve had mine for ages, and they’re still available.
The napkin rings were an Amazon find, and a terrific bargain at $18 for 12.
Twig flatware in rose gold by World Market toned well with the chargers and napkin rings. I suspect the variety of shades in the daffodils helped pull it all together. I confess to being a bit surprised at how much I like that set; my mother would be horrified at using gold flatware (“vulgar, my dear” she would have said).
It was a gorgeous day and I happily snapped away outside in the bright sunlight.
Oh, those daffs! The pale peachy-pink ones are Mrs. R.O. Backhouse, and the darker pink are Pink Parasol; the white ones with the orange-edged centre are Narcissus Poeticus (the poet’s daffodil); the white with pale yellow centres are Ice Follies. There are a few Baby Moons tucked in there and the plain old yellow ones are King Alfred.

Almost forgot – the little open salts are from Etsy several years ago.

The blooms are almost over for another year, and I’m glad to have captured their glory in photographs!

Helen, of all the colours to highlight in those plates, blue was certainly the right one this time (for the beach), although the pink might also have proved interesting, given the pinks in the narcissi. But I do like those seedy glasses, which have the heft to stand up to a strong casual look. And next time, yellow/gold would look especially sunny. Haha…my mum would have said the same thing about my rose-gold flatware. I’m surprised to see Poetica blooming so early with the others…normally it is a late-bloomer. If you have a chance, get your hands on The Bride–it has become my favourite because of its long bloom time, waxy flowers, and devastating perfume. I’ve just ordered 20 Convallaria (lily of the valley), which do very well here as a fast-spreading dense ground cover. The iris, opium poppies, and peonies are about to bloom. Glad spring has finally found you too!
Beatrice, I was wondering about the pink in the plates, too, and think next time I’ll set them with pink. They’re quite versatile!
The daffs here all seem to bloom at the same time, or at least the season is so extended that it seems so. I will definitely seek out some of The Bride. It sounds heavenly! One can never have too many daffodils!
Our lily of the valley is just starting to bloom; it’s one of my favourites. Our peonies are budded, but I expect they’ll be a few weeks yet. They always take way longer than I think they’re going to. I’ll get the cages on in the next few days while I remember.

Your daffodils are gorgeous! And I love those plates, too. The pale blue stemware looks so pretty with the blue dots on the plate rims. This is a beautiful spring table for sure.

Oh I’m happy to see you’ve emboldened the yellows. Always was my dear Mother’s favorite! And how she looked forward to Spring in often cold snowy Minnesota. Walking today, I saw purple and yellow crocuses opening up. Yay! Early sign of March lambs not the Lion.
