One of the delights of fall is waking up to an unexpected jewel of a day with bright sunshine and warm temperatures, just when we’ve resigned ourselves to gloomy skies and plummeting thermometers.

We had already brought in the outdoor furniture for the season, but I was so energized by the gorgeous day, I decided to haul out our drop-leaf table from the family room and set a transition tablescape with a set of Winter Lodge woodland-themed appetizer plates from Certified International. I do love Mr Hare in his winter setting.

Winter Lodge is a fairly comprehensive offering with tons of pieces available, but these little plates with their faux-wood border really stole my heart.

A quick snip from one of our cedars, add in a few pine cones and branches from a tree out front and I was in business. Instant centrepiece.

I used a matelasse bedspread from ages ago, sourced at Bed Bath & Beyond for the base. A lively paisley striped scarf served as a colourful runner and a set of paisley napkins from HomeGoods filled out the colour scheme.

Wood handled flatware from World Market seemed the natural choice for a woodland themed table.

Acacia Wood chargers, topped with vintage Cream on Cream shell-edged Wedgwood dinner plates, and brown oak-leaf Majolica salad plates layered up to frame the appetizer plates. The colourful pheasant takes in his pine-cone surroundings.

Generous white pumpkin shaped mugs from Pier 1 this year await an infusion of latte for a foamy caffeinated start to the day.

A wily fox pauses to check behind him. What was that noise? Am I being followed?

A snow-covered set of pine cone salt and pepper shakers snuggles in next to the cedar.

Now, what is this wise owl doing out in the daytime? Waiting for breakfast?

Fingers crossed that we get a few more of these glorious fall days as we transition to hibernation-weather. Brrrrr.

I’m sharing this post with Between Naps on the Porch.
