Maybe the racoons could keep an eye out for you, and report any fox movement. They can be very sneaky!
Woodland Walk is a charming set of salad plates by August Grove, Certified International. They’re part of a quite a large collection. I confined myself to eight salad plates and a set of four mugs. I couldn’t resist the mugs, as they feature the same animals, one per mug. Adorable.
I was originally going to go with a centrepiece of branches and leaves, but then I came across the hellebores at Trader Joe’s. Also known as Lenten or Christmas Roses, hellebores bloom at this time of year when the weather is not in an absolute deep freeze. They’re one hardy plant, let me tell you. I’ve seen them blooming away in late December, receive a wallop of snow and emerge unscathed. The leaves take a bit of a beating, but new blooms appear in no time. I tucked these guys into the ground before we left the Cape, augmenting their brethren beneath a tree in the woodland area of our property. I don’t know if they’ll take, as they’ve likely been in a hothouse environment, but at least they got a shot at it. Here’s hoping!
The birchbark candles were an Amazon find. They came with some rather awful flameless candles, so I went back to traditional wax tea lights for this table.
The birch bark planters (as well as the burlap runner) are from Save on Crafts.
The amber twist glasses are from Williams Sonoma many years ago and long discontinued, unfortunately. The etched glasses are Julia Amber Stemmed by Tiffin Franciscan. That’s the water glass. They’re Depression glass, sometimes available at Replacements, and can come up from time to time on eBay. Oh – almost forgot. Those little waving racoon salt & pepper shakers are from Amazon.
The wood handled flatware is from World Market. The twig placemats and Forest Green Plaid twill napkins are both from Pier 1. I got the white version of the placemats on clearance at Pier 1 earlier this year. They’ve only got the brown ones right now, also on clearance, as are the napkins.
Ballard Designs was having a sale on these Antler Napkin rings last year. They’re resin, so a little bit delicate. Two of them arrived broken, but I was able to glue the bits back on quite easily with Crazy Glue.

These plates would be perfect for our Alpine setting–thanks for the link! The only flameless candles I like are Luminara, and only in white, as I find the ivory too yellow. Pity they aren’t as bright as real ones, but they are certainly handy for hard-to-reach and heat-sensitive locations. Plus I love the automatic “lighting-up time.”
Last week the white twig mats were in my local Pier 1 on clearance. Maybe I shouldn’t have passed them by, but I think I’ll make some from ashy silk leaves or something else forest-y. We also have a lot of berries and tiny rose hips this time of year–could make an interesting centrepiece. Last year I made antler rings from some resin Christmas ornaments, 75 cents at Wally World.
OH is on skis as we speak and reports that this winter has brought deep snow and lots of sun, so hellebores may be in my future too. Just have to find a spot amongst the sleeping tulips. Thanks for another table inspiration.

Yes, the plates would indeed be perfect for an alpine setting and it sounds like you’ve already got a number of the elements to create a lovely table. Good scoop on the Wally World napkin rings!
Thanks for the tip on the flameless candles. I find the larger ones easier to source, but the tiny tea-light ones were truly ghastly.
My better half is also currently on skis, out West in Canada. Fingers crossed he comes back in one piece!

Just another creative table setting to add to your many other ones. The fox reminded me of our resident fox in England who thought he owned our garden. Very cute plates! If you have any luck with the Christmas roses, let me know. I love them in the garden in December but have never seen them on the cape. Hope Glenn makes it back in one piece as we’re still enjoying the warm weather in Maui. Cheers

I’ve got hellebores in the Cape near the back of our property, so please stop by! Bought them at Trader Joe’s in Hyannis. The rest of the patch came from a nursery when we redid the garden.

This is lovely! The birch bark candles are the perfect accent with your woodland creature dishes! The runner added the perfect texture and the so are the napkins with the antler like napkin rings. I hope you’ll get a chance to swing by my blog one of these days 🙂
