There’s a special kind of magic in blue and white—a freshness that feels both timeless and inviting. With the peonies blooming and last week’s Nor’Easter in the rear view mirror, I was eager to get cracking with an outdoor table.

Adelaide Navy: A Fresh Take on Transferware

The Adelaide pattern in navy is a lovely modern homage to antique English transferware. Swirling peonies, cherry blossoms, and delicate birds grace each plate in a crisp white etching on deep indigo glaze. The design is intricate but never fussy—romantic, yes, but also bold.

The matching bowls, part of the same line, carry a simpler floral treatment on the outside, while the interior reveals a single bird perched on a branch, perfect for serving soup or dessert with a hidden flourish.

From classic florals to seasonal patterns, it’s a fantastic brand for collectors and entertainers alike—whether you’re starting out or layering in variety.

A Creamy Classic: Wedgwood’s Cabbage Leaf in Etruria & Barlaston

Layered between the dinner plates and bowls are Wedgwood cabbage leaf plates, crafted in the iconic Etruria and Barlaston factory. Their creamy white glaze, subtle scalloping, and botanical texture provide a tonal contrast to the deep indigo. A collectible favourite, these plates offer all the charm of vintage majolica, but with the elegant refinement for which Wedgwood is known.

Layered Textures and Garden Touches

Each setting sits atop a rattan charger, adding natural warmth and echoing the basketweave texture of the (faux!) wicker chairs.

Old Williamsburg Glassware: A Vintage Pop of Blue

The deep blue goblets are part of the Old Williamsburg line by Imperial Glass, Ohio, produced from the 1950s onward. So, not quite Depression glass, but a close cousin. With their panelled sides and flared silhouette, they were designed to echo colonial glassware while offering sturdy everyday elegance. This one is  Old Williamsburg Deep Blue Ultra—a perfect vintage complement to the table. Their rich tone catches and reflects the summer light beautifully, adding just the right amount of sparkle and contrast.

The Star of the Show

Where would we be without our floral focus? The centrepiece is a lush bouquet of white peonies, irises, and lady’s mantle, arranged in a simple white pitcher—good old Mikasa!.

The effect is loose and effortless — I’m of the “clutch and drop” school of floral arrangements in jugs.

It’s All in the Details: Birdhouse Salt & Pepper Shakers

Perched at the base of the bouquet is a charming ceramic birdhouse salt & pepper shaker set.

Whether you’re hosting brunch on the patio, afternoon tea with friends, blue and white is a combination with infinite possibilities.

The roses are beginning to bloom, the dahlias have stuck their leaves above the parapet, and buds are fattening on the hydrangea. My favourite time of year is upon us! Outdoor table setting and dining. Woot!

Enjoy the rest of the week, all!
