Summer wouldn’t be complete without a few New England Lobster Rolls. We usually snag a few from the takeout window of Sesuit Harbor Cafe to be consumed on the beach at sunset. But I decided to put together a casual afternoon tea featuring Coquille by Fitz & Floyd. Aren’t the coral etchings lovely?

Both the dinner and salad plates feature four different sea shells.

The saucers to the tea cups have all four shells.

I skipped scones in favour of the New England Lobster Rolls, which were served with the traditional split-top hot dog buns. When in Rome…

And rather than coleslaw, I opted for Avocado Caprese Salad in clear glass footed compotes.

Coquille made an appearance a few years ago at a seafood extravaganza. It featured chilled fresh lobster, shrimp, and oysters, along with Corn Salad and Apple Slaw.

That time, I used Fostoria’s June Pink Depression glass for a consistent coral palette, right down to the succulent seafood.

As with the earlier table, Barton and Reed Sea Shells flatware (eBay) enhanced the theme.

Summer is speeding by entirely too quickly for my taste.

We head off first thing tomorrow morning to return to Canada in preparation for our upcoming jaunt to Scotland with two of our kids, their spouses and four of the granddaughters. While I’m very much looking forward to it, it’s a wrench to leave the Cape at the height of summer.

We took all three dogs to the beach for an early morning low-tide romp. The “babies,” now two and a half, got the first shift, careening around, splashing in and out of the waves and tackling each other to the ground. I took Churchill down afterwards for his own separate farewell walk. Now a dignified twelve years of age, he doesn’t need a dislocated hip from his all-too-eager younger siblings crashing into him. He was up for it in his youth, but we are mindful of his advancing years.

One last look at our New England Lobster Rolls with Avocado Caprese Salad.

Happy Sunday, all!
