This whimsical and colourful set of dessert plates is a recent discovery. Of course, I’m a sucker for anything with animals on it, particularly dogs.
Dogs seem to be a theme for Pier 1 this year, and this set is called Lazy Sunday Pups, featuring a city skyline in the background and various dogs with a trendy woman reading a New York paper whilst sitting on a park bench. I especially love the snooty poodle.
- dessert plate
- long, narrow platter
- generously sized mugs
The set comprises dessert plates, mugs and a serving platter. (Update for 2017 – the set now has a cute candy dish and a pasta bowl! ) It’s ironstone, so nice and practical. I’ve very much enjoyed using it for my morning coffee and for afternoon snacks on the porch.
Here I’ve styled it with black placemats and rust coloured Martillo under plates (discontinued), also from Pier One. The turquoise glasses were purchased many years ago from an artisan shop in Provincetown, MA (now defunct). The Cupola flatware and napkins (discontinued) are from Williams Sonoma.
All in, a very fun, practical and inexpensive set. Love it.
I’m sharing this post with Between Naps on the Porch.
I’m a big, big fan of these plates! The snooty poodle is fun, and I love the super casual, unaffected one beneath the bench! Fun!!!
Isn’t it a fun set? I look forward to my coffee every morning in the mug. A great way to start the day.
Dear Alycia,
I love the lazy Sunday pups plates and mugs. I have a set of 8 but my THANKSGIVING family has grown and I need 4 plates and mugs. They are discontinued at pier one and nowhere to be found do you know anyone who would be willing to sell theirs or some of them? Thanks in advance for your help !!
Hi Adele,
I’d suggest doing a search on eBay and saving it. They’ll let you know if anything pops up, which it most likely will over time. I’ve added lots of items that way, including Pier 1’s Delicious plates. The second option is to ask Replacements to find them for you. I have one more option! Add in some of this year’s Pup plate offering and have two coordinating patterns. The teal blue is consistent with both, as are the leaves. You can alternate the plates on the table.
Thanks for stopping by.
